Launch of Betanet v5
In December, we launched Betanet v5 which comes with Lisk SDK 5.0.0 and Lisk Core 3.0.0-beta.2 releases and all the objectives of the Network Longevity phase implemented. This release introduces new features on the protocol and improvements on the code level. Some of the important features are the banning mechanism for delegates, a generic serialization method, a generic Merkle tree structure, and a new block schema. On Friday, December 4th at 3pm CET, we hosted a live AMA on Lisk.chat where Shusetsu Toda (Lead Backend Developer) answered questions from the community members about the launch of Betanet v5. We have published a blog post as a recap of the AMA for the release.
Release of Lisk 2.0.0-beta.0 for Desktop
In December, we also released Lisk 2.0.0-beta.0 for Desktop which is working with Betanet v4. This version introduces support for the dynamic transaction fee and for the new voting system. Lisk 2.0.0-beta.0 for Desktop does not work with Mainnet or Testnet; it only works with Betanet. A production release will not follow up this release. Further features will be added to the next release Lisk 2.0.0-beta.1 for Desktop.
Building the Lisk Ride Project
Jean-Michel Alandou (@blackjmxx) published on the Lisk blog a post about the Lisk Ride Project as part of his participation in the Lisk Builders program.
His project “Lisk Ride” represents a proof of concept blockchain application that showcases a community platform that connects drivers with free seats to passengers looking for a ride in the same direction. The goal of the blockchain application is to remove the intermediaries, facilitating direct transactions.
Building the Lisk Ticketing Project
Moosty team published a blog post about the Lisk Ticketing project as part of their participation in the Lisk Builders program.
Their project “Lisk Ticketing” represents a proof of concept blockchain application that represents an honest ticketing system. This project provides a new approach to selling tickets which includes proof of authenticity. The tickets will be linked to an account on the blockchain and therefore it would not be possible to switch them between users off-chain. Lisk Ticketing provides a solution to manage the process from the creation of the event until the event entry.
End of the Year AMA
On Tuesday, December 8th, Max Kordek, CEO and Co-founder at Lisk, hosted an AMA on Lisk.chat. This End of the Year AMA was focused on questions regarding the involvement of Lisk’s founders in the new DPoS consensus algorithm, our marketing plans for 2021, the hardware wallet support, and many other Lisk project related topics. We published a blog post as a full recap of the live AMA session.
Community Hero of the Month
Mdmg (Lisk.chat username: @mdmg) was announced as the last Community Hero for this year. He is very active within the Lisk community, offering technical support to newcomers and building various blockchain applications with the Lisk SDK.
Blockchain in Energy Markets
At the beginning of the month, we published the sixth blog post from the series covering the impact blockchain technology can have on specific industries. This article dives deep into the Energy Markets topic and showcases the benefits of using blockchain technology for the challenges in this industry. The blog post about how blockchain technology can be applied at enterprises from the Energy industry is added to the Lisk Enterprises page.
