Season 1 of our airdrop campaign has officially come to an end, and what a journey it’s been! After the successful launch of the Lisk User Mainnet, we kicked off this campaign to give builders, creators, and curious minds like you a chance to explore everything Lisk has to offer and earn rewards in LSK tokens.
Over the past hundred days, hundreds of thousands of participants have dived in—exploring DApps, interacting with smart contracts, and completing tasks from our ecosystem partners to earn rewards. This included joining our ecosystem partners like Fonbnk and Xellar as verified users and exploring the extent of DeFi on Ionic and Oku Trade by providing liquidity, swapping and borrowing assets, and offering collateral.
From getting connected with the Onchain family across social media to joining the community on Discord, to fully immersing in our blockchain—whether it was swapping tokens, providing liquidity, or bridging assets—Season 1 offered a diverse range of ways to engage with the Lisk ecosystem. But it wasn’t just about rewards; these tasks were designed to educate, empower, and onboard users, making our blockchain more accessible and impactful.
With so many of you actively engaging in Season 1 and keeping us busy with community buzz and excitement, it’s now time for the most anticipated part—receiving your rewards!
Payouts Are Coming Soon
Participants can expect payouts within 2-3 weeks after the end of Season 1. Our team is finalizing the distribution process to ensure all rewards are fairly allocated.
Ensuring Fairness
As we prepare for payouts, we’re committed to making this airdrop as fair and transparent as possible. To ensure that every legitimate participant receives the rewards they fairly earned, we’re taking key measures to protect against sybil attacks and duplicate accounts.
Lisk employs several safeguards to uphold fairness and prevent abuse:
- Soft identity checks help verify genuine participants.
- Sybil-resistant tasks require meaningful engagement to complete.
- Manual data analysis is conducted before final payouts to detect and remove suspicious activity.
These steps ensure that rewards go to real, active participants, keeping the competition fair while maintaining the integrity of the airdrop.
Additionally, we partnered with Nomis, a Web3 reputation protocol, to further strengthen our anti-sybil measures. As part of this collaboration, participants had the opportunity to mint their reputation score via a task, which boosted their total points by 15%, provided they had a minimum Lisk score of 10. This task also awarded 5,000 points to everyone who completed it.
These steps ensure that rewards go to real, active participants, keeping the competition fair while maintaining the integrity of the airdrop.
Commitment to a Sybil-Free Ecosystem
We are committed to fostering a fair, transparent, and sybil-resistant ecosystem where real users and builders can thrive. The measures taken during Season 1 reflect our broader approach to maintaining integrity across Lisk’s network, ensuring that rewards and participation opportunities are distributed fairly.
However, as with any large-scale distribution event, we observed attempts to game the system through sybil farming and referral abuse. To ensure fairness, we implemented strict anti-sybil measures in collaboration with Nomis and thorough internal analysis.
For security reasons, we cannot disclose all details of our detection mechanisms, but in the interest of transparency, these were some of the most common reasons for banning sybils:
Onchain Sybil Cluster Analysis
Nomis conducted a deep sybil cluster analysis, examining onchain transaction patterns, historical wallet data, balances, and behavioral similarities. Clusters of wallets with highly correlated activity were flagged and removed.
Cross-Referencing External Data
We proactively excluded addresses that were previously flagged as malicious sybils in other onchain airdrops. Our analysis leveraged multiple external datasets to identify and verify suspicious activity.
Ensuring Unique Wallet Verification
Every participant was required to connect their wallet to Guild before earning points. Since Guild allows multiple wallets to be linked to a single account, only the most recently connected wallet was considered legitimate, preventing duplicate participation.
Preventing Referral Exploits
Our system was designed with safeguards against known referral exploit patterns. We identified and removed approximately 200,000 duplicate addresses that were created through a malicious exploit. Attackers attempted to refer themselves by duplicating participating wallets, but our detection system flagged and banned these users along with the fraudulent referrals.
The Impact of Our Sybil Protection Measures
Season 1 saw around 1 million total participants. Due to the malicious exploit, approximately 200,000 addresses were duplicates. Within Lisk Guild, which serves as the verification layer, there were around 280,000 members. Of those, 135,000 were identified as sybils, while 145,000 were confirmed as non-sybils. In total, approximately 38% of all points were earned by sybils before they were ultimately banned.
