The first major wave of Decentralized Finance (DeFi) in 2020—driven by Automated Market Makers (AMMs) and protocol-based liquidity incentives—transformed Ethereum into a global financial layer. It showcased how smart contracts could replace intermediaries, unlock new financial primitives, and build entirely new economies on-chain. DeFi wasn’t just a niche experiment; it became the proving ground for what blockchain is truly capable of.

Now, as an Ethereum Layer 2 and part of the OP Superchain, we’re building on those foundations with a focus on scalability, interoperability, and long-term alignment. The Lisk Surge campaign is designed to accelerate that momentum—by bootstrapping real DeFi activity, attracting quality liquidity, and bringing meaningful on-chain engagement to Lisk from day one.

Structured as a three-part, nine-week initiative, it is onboarding users, bootstrapping liquidity, and incentivizing early adopters through meaningful rewards. Sequence One sets the foundation—focusing on high-utility assets like USDT0 (stablecoin), WETH (Wrapped Ether), and WBTC (Wrapped Bitcoin), while integrating with Superchain-native protocols such as Velodrome for liquidity provisioning, Jumper Exchange for seamless cross-chain bridging, and Mellow for offering structured restaking strategies within the Lisk ecosystem. Together with our partners, we’re creating a frictionless entry point into the Lisk ecosystem, lowering the barrier to participate and earn high Yields.

As we begin Sequence Two, we couldn’t be happier with what we’ve achieved so far. The traction, participation, and enthusiasm from the community—and the commitment of our partners—continue to validate our approach and set the stage for even greater momentum in the coming phases.

What We’ve Seen So Far

With the first three weeks of the Surge campaign complete, Sequence One has already delivered strong signals of traction, interest, and excitement within our community.

In just the first three weeks of the Surge campaign, DeFi activity on Lisk has accelerated meaningfully. The Total Value Locked (TVL) on Lisk crossed the $20 million mark during Sequence One—much of it concentrated in key pools like USDT0/USDC.e, WETH/wstETH, USDT0/WETH on Velodrome. These pools have quickly become foundational liquidity rails for users participating in the campaign, many of whom arrived via Jumper Exchange—the campaign’s bridging partner and a key contributor to the seamless user onboarding flow.

Participation has been strong across the board, In total, over 4,200 unique wallets earned rewards during the first epoch of the Surge campaign and a steady stream of users continuing to bridge assets, add liquidity, and claim rewards highlighting strong early participation and broad engagement across the Lisk DeFi ecosystem.

To support this growth, we distributed 247,500 LSK across incentivized pools via Merkl, giving users real-time access to accrued rewards.

Looking Ahead: Sequence Two and Beyond

With Sequence One now behind us, we’re already building on that momentum with Sequence Two, live now through June 25. This next phase expands the campaign both in scope and rewards—introducing new assets, deeper incentives, and an even stronger alignment with the broader Superchain.

One of the most exciting updates in Sequence Two is the addition of Optimism (OP) rewards. Thanks to support from the OP Foundation, we’re distributing 252,000 LSK and 80,000 OP tokens to liquidity providers across select Velodrome pools on Lisk. This marks a significant step forward—not only are we continuing to reward our growing community, but we’re also integrating more deeply into the Superchain incentive economy.

The pool structure has also evolved – new opportunities such as the EURC.e / USDT0 velodrome pool are emerging for users to provide liquidity on asset pairs aligned with the broader L2 ecosystem. And for Sequence 3 we will launch support for Morpho lending markets. As with Sequence One, rewards are distributed via Merkl, and you can track eligible pools directly through the Surge campaign dashboard
